This magnetron-based, RF system provides low cost RF power for high-Q accelerator cavities at high efficiency. Control electronics monitor accelerator operation and use phase modulation to control the power delivered to the cavity. This allows phase and amplitude control of RF power into the cavity on fast time scales. Power control on slower time scales is achieved by modifying the magnetron voltage and magnetic field. The system provides RF power at higher efficiency and lower cost than comparable klystron-based systems.
